Jila Nikpay’s short films explore the dynamics of power between the individual and society. She has written and directed Objects of Love (2020), Soliloquy (2018), Dreaming with Lola (2016), Happy Republic (2015), Divided (2014), Ways of Becoming (2013), Hour of the Dark (2011), In Waiting (2008), Labyrinth (2007), Rhythm of Tides (2007), Keepers of the Garden (2004), Shroud and Torrent (2003). The films have screened at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival, the Walker Art Center, Austin Asian American Film Festival, Tehran House of Artists, as well as broadcast on Twin Cities Public Television and ShortsTV channel.
Nikpay’s work has received numerous awards from foundations, including Minnesota State Arts Board, Jerome Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation. Nikpay has an M.F.A. in film from Syracuse University, New York, and has served on film granting panels, lectured as a guest filmmaker, and taught film courses at various universities and film collectives.
